Most of the cloud problems we see start the same way: a business moves infrastructure into the cloud and then manages it exactly like it managed its old on-premise servers. That approach rarely survives contact with reality. Cloud providers price and structure their services differently, use different terminology for equivalent functions, and expect a different kind of ongoing attention — miss that shift and you end up paying for capacity you don’t use, running services that are quietly misconfigured, or discovering a backup gap only when you actually need the backup.
We see this most often in three places: services sized for peak demand that never arrives, private resources left exposed to the public internet because a default setting was never changed, and backup schedules that look complete on paper but miss the data that actually matters. None of this is unusual. It’s the normal outcome of treating a fundamentally different kind of infrastructure the same way as the old one.
Once you’re in the cloud, the ongoing question is how much of the day-to-day you want to hand over. We work two ways, and most clients land somewhere between the two rather than picking one permanently:
Which one makes sense depends on how much in-house cloud expertise you already have, and how much risk you’re comfortable carrying if something’s misconfigured. Businesses without a dedicated IT resource tend to move toward fully managed quickly; businesses with an internal team more often start with review and shift over time as trust builds.
A cloud account review starts with a straightforward question: what are you actually running, and is it doing what you think it’s doing? In our experience, most businesses that have been in the cloud for more than a year are carrying at least one issue they don’t know about — usually cost-related, sometimes security-related, occasionally both.
We run reviews at two levels of depth. A simple review gives you a snapshot of the obvious issues and a rough cost impact. A detailed review goes further, covering configuration, sizing, security exposure and backup integrity, and comes with a written report you can act on immediately or hand to your internal team. If you specifically want an AWS-focused cost and security audit with a defined savings estimate, that’s the dedicated service on our AWS Partner page — this review is the broader starting point.
If you’re not in the cloud yet, the first conversation isn’t really about technology — it’s about what you’re trying to get out of the move. Lower infrastructure costs, better reliability, the ability to scale without a hardware order lead time, or simply getting out of a data centre contract that’s ending: the answer changes what the migration plan should prioritise.
From there we build a plan around cost estimates (both upfront and ongoing), a realistic implementation timeline, and an honest projection of what disruption to expect along the way — because migrations that promise zero downtime and then don’t deliver it cost more in trust than they save in convenience. For AWS-specific migrations, our AWS Partner team handles the detailed technical planning; this is where that engagement starts.
We’ve specialised in Amazon Web Services since 2009, which puts our cloud practice ahead of most local providers who added “cloud services” to their offering more recently. That depth matters when something’s gone wrong at 2am, or when a review needs to distinguish between a genuine risk and a default setting that’s actually fine.
The other difference is what sits around the cloud work. Arvo is a full-service agency — website development, digital marketing and IT support under the same roof — so when a cloud migration affects a website’s hosting, or a security review turns up an issue that touches your marketing systems, you’re not coordinating between separate vendors who don’t talk to each other. We’re also a Microsoft Solutions Partner and a Local Buy prequalified supplier for Queensland Government procurement, if that credential matters to how you’re evaluating providers.
Cloud Solutions is the starting point for cloud account management, reviews and migration planning for any Brisbane business running infrastructure in the cloud. Our AWS Partner service is a more focused offering for businesses that specifically want a structured AWS cost and security audit, or detailed AWS migration planning. If you already know you want that level of depth, go straight there — otherwise this is the right place to start the conversation.
We specialise in Amazon Web Services and have done since 2009, rather than spreading across multiple providers. If your business already runs on AWS, or you’re deciding where to build, that focus gives you deeper expertise than a generalist provider — we’re upfront that our hands-on delivery is AWS-specific.
The clearest signs are a cloud bill that’s grown faster than your usage, uncertainty among your team about what’s actually running, or simply never having had one done. Most businesses that have been in the cloud for over a year benefit from at least a simple review, even if nothing seems obviously wrong.
Yes. We can start as a review-only partner, checking changes before they go live while your team retains control, and move to fuller management later if it makes sense. Plenty of clients stay at review-only permanently rather than handing over full account access.
Yes. Cloud management, reviews and migrations are delivered remotely regardless of where your business is based — Brisbane is where our team works from, not a limit on who we work with.
Whether you want a second opinion on an account that already feels under control, a proper review of one that doesn’t, or a plan to get into the cloud for the first time, the starting point is the same conversation.
